Collections assessment and collections development policy
for the Bulmer Brick and Tile Company, Essex 

Funded by the NHLF, Sarah and Anna formed a project team with a freelance conservator and academic to provide this internationally significant traditional brickworks with a comprehensive assessment of their collections.  They assessed the scope and scale of the collections and consulted external experts, heritage organisations and craftspeople to define significance. 

Their recommendations for collections management and cataloguing led to a further commission to write BBT’s collections development policy.  Sarah and Anna’s input has enabled BBT to explore options for protecting their collections for future generations, and for using them in education work and skills training to raise awareness of the endangered heritage craft of traditional brickmaking.
